New VAT + Charges on Mobile Call (Budget 2012-2013 Thoughts)

I was never fond of Budget. Even in my School life, while only available channel on our TV was BTV (Bangladesh Television), it was quite hard to manage myself watching budget session from Parliament live. Economics is certainly not my thing. But one thing understand that, budget doesn't give any extra benefit that will be life changing. Most of the time price of thing I like to have in my life more rises dramatically, even before budget is passed. Even if sometimes, some prices should be reduced according to budget, it hardly affect real market price which remain unchanged like before. So, I lost appetite for budget long time ago.

Last 2 days, while checking my Facebook feed, I've noticed several budget associated article shared by my friends, which is related with Mobile Call price. Two different article is expressing two different aspect, but saying certainly same thing; mobile call price is going to rise.

According to Priyo.com, Government is thinking to establish another 2% vat on Mobile call to Users End. That means 15+2 = 17% VAT. You will find source article in here: http://www.priyo.com/2012/06/07/4447.html

On addition, KalerKantho has published another report saying that, to improve local electricity supply, government is implementing to charge 15-20 Paisha per call. I like to think that is a good reason, but will this is really going to reduce Load Shedding? I wish, I can believe that. Article is here: Article

So, what's now? Let's see an example: For grameenphone, lowest call price is .49 tk. In addition they are adding a so called Call Setup Charge for users which is .30 Tk. Plus New VAT & Charges! So minimum price of Call even in FNF number is going to be almost 0.49+0.30 = 0.79 x 17%VAT = 0.92 + 0.15tk Charge For Power sector development= 1.07 TK. Correct me, If I'm wrong. Mobile phone or Telecommunication is certainly not a privilege only for higher class, It will effect people of class. So much for Digital Bangladesh!
